PONTI PINO

Born in Venice on April the 12th 1905, died on June the 3rd 1999 in Milan. He studied under Ettore Tito and Virgilio Guidi, he achieved diploma at the Fine Arts Academy in his native city, where he had his first personal by the Venetian Region in 1930. In 1927 with his famous painting «Il Fulmine Nella Centrale Elettrica» which represented the thunder of fascism on the world of job, he already had his first problem with the regime. In 1929 he was invited with two works to a big show of the italian ‘900 at which participated De Chirico, De Pisis, Casorati, Manzù, Birolli and others. In this year the Galleries of Modern Art in Milan and Venice bought four works of the of the twentyfour years old artist. In 1931 he definitely moved to Milan where Raffaello Giolli and Edoardo Persico organized his first personal in Milan at the «Poligono» Gallery. He achieved the first prize for the sketch of an altarpiece at the show of sacred art in the Angelicum (Milan 1936). Subsequently he participated to many italian and foreigner collectives: Geneva (1947); XXIV Biennial of Venice (1948), with «Pescatori»; Suzzara Prize (1949); VII Four Annual of Rome (1956), with «Appuntamento» and «I Cinque dell’Adda»; Paris (La Boëtie Gallery) «Cinquanta Pittori Italiani d'Oggi», (1957); Ramazzotti Prize (1961); National Biennial of Milan (1963); Michetti Prize (1965); National Show of Black and White in Turin (1972). His works could be founded in the Modern Art Gallery of Venice and Milan, in the prints collection at Sforzesco Castel (Milan).
